जगात जर यशाचा मार्ग असेल तर तो मी शोधीन
आणि नसेल तर मग स्वतः निर्माण करीन ।
   - मराठा योद्धा

For any Success,
If there is a way,
I will find it,
If there is no way, then
I will make it.
- Maratha Warrior

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who hoisted the flag of the Maratha Empire, was born on 19 February. The name of Shivaji is one of the warriors of the country who bowed down to the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb with his bravery. Today we will give you information about his marvelous forts, which he had made to protect his power in difficult circumstances.

Shivneri Fort

Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje was born in this fort. Shivneri Fort is in Junnar village near Pune, Maharashtra. Within this fort is the temple of Mata Shivai, after whom Shivaji was named. There are two sources of sweet water in this fort which people call Ganga-Jamuna. People say that they release water throughout the year. There is a deep trench around the fort which used to protect the Shivneri Fort. This fort has many caves which are now closed. It is said that Shivaji Maharaj took the practice of guerrilla warfare (Ganimi Kawa) inside these caves.

Shivaji made his first victory by capturing this fort. The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb captured this fort in 1665, which was rescued by Shivaji Maharaj after just five years and hoisted the Maratha flag on the fort of Purandar. There is a tunnel in this fort whose path leads out of the fort. This tunnel was used by Shivaji Maharaj to go out during the war.
