Raigad Fort

The fort of Raigad is the pride of Chhatrapati Shivaji's capital. He built this fort in 1674 AD. Raigad Fort remained his residence for a long time after becoming the king of the Maratha Empire. Raigad Fort is situated at a height of 2700 feet above sea level. To reach this fort, about 1737 steps have to be climbed. Raigad Fort was captured by the British in 1818 AD and destroyed a large part of the fort by looting it.

Suvarna Durg Fort is also known as Golden Fort. Shivaji Maharaj captured this fort in 1660 AD. He defeated Suvarna durga in the Maratha Empire by defeating Ali Adilshah II. This fort was captured to increase maritime strength. In this fort, the later kings of Shivaji Maharaj also formed the Maratha Navy. Through this fort Maratha prevented many sea invasions.
