Arnala Fort


The fort of Arnala is in the village of Vasai in Maharashtra. It is 48 km from Mumbai. Bajirao's brother Cheemaji captured it, though Maratha lost a lot of people in this war. In 1802 AD, Peshwa Bajirao II signed the treaty. After this, the fort of Arnala came under the dominion of the British. Sultan of Gujarat, Portuguese, English and Marathas ruled from this fort. The fort of Arnala is surrounded by the sea on all three sides.

Pratapgad Fort in Satara, Maharashtra tells the story of Shivaji Maharaj’s courage. This fort is also known by the war in Pratapgad. Shivaji Maharaj built this fort  to undertake in order to defend the banks of the Nira and the Koyna rivers, and to defend the Par pass. In 1665, the fort of Pratapgad was completed. From this fort, there was a war between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan on 10 November 1656, in which Shivaji Maharaj won. This victory of Pratapgad Fort is considered the foundation for the Maratha Empire.
