Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla was born in 1856 in Serbia. As with innate talents, Tesla's brains were amazing since childhood. Scientists are believed to be weak in learning languages, but this was not the case with Tesla. By reaching the young age, he started writing, reading and speaking eight languages like English, French, German, along with his mother tongue Serbo. At the same time, he had expertise in mathematics. He had studied electrical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute in Graz, Austria, and at the same time he realized that the direct current (DC) form of electricity which is being described as so exaggerated is wrong. At the same time Tesla started thinking about making other options i.e. AC more useful.

Edison had become an inventor as well as an industrialist by that time. He had designed a plant for DC power supply and he wanted Tesla to improve it. Tesla writes in his memoirs that Edison had promised to give him 50 thousand dollars upon completion of this work, but he turned away from his promise. For Tesla it was nothing short of a shock. He immediately left Edison.

By that time, it was publicized among American investors and scientists that Tesla's work on AC power systems and AC motors could bring a big change in the electricity sector. With this thinking, the Western Union Company immediately offered Tesla a job at his place. It was here that Tesla developed the AC power system and motor. Tesla sold these inventions to another company. Based on these new discoveries, the Western House Electric Company introduced AC electricity into the US.

Tesla then invented the 'Tesla Coil'. This was a discovery that ranged from x-rays to wireless communication. It is believed that Nikola Tesla was also heavily influenced by Vedanta philosophy. In 1907 he wrote an article titled 'Man's Greatest Achievement'. In this, he has used Sanskrit words like ‘Akash’ and ‘Prana’.
